RAPT Pill Hydrometer & Thermometer - Bluetooth Operation Guide
The RAPT Pill can send telemetry via WiFI or Bluetooth. For general use WiFi is the default option.
Bluetooth will only work if the RAPT Pill Hydrometer is paired with a Bluetooth capable RAPT device such as a RAPT Fermentation Chamber, a RAPT Temperature Controller or a RAPT Glycol Chiller.
Once a RAPT Pill Hydrometer is set to Bluetooth Telemetry and Bonded with a compatible RAPT device (such as a RAPT Fermentation Chamber or a RAPT Temperature Controller) the Pill Hydromer can be used as a temperature probe for that RAPT device.
This is fantastically powerful.
As well as transmitting temperature information, the RAPT Pill will also send both Gravity and Gravity Velocity to the Bonded RAPT device.
This allows the use of powerful and complex Fermentation Profiles.
For example, you can select to have the temperature maintained until a set gravity is reached. You may prefer to ramp the fermentation temperature when the Gravity Velocity slows to a certain level. This functionality is unlocked via Bluetooth!
To enable Bluetooth on the Pill, you must first connect to the Pill Captive Portal by following the instructions above. Then, navigate to the Settings page of the Captive Portal.
There is a dropdown menu for Telemetry Method. This enables you to switch between WiFi or Bluetooth for telemetry, and also to set the desired telemetry interval.
The default telemetry interval for WiFI is 60 minutes.
The default telemetry interval for Bluetooth is 1 minute
It is not recommended to set shorter telemetry intervals. Shorter intervals will impact battery life.
Recommended telemetry intervals are 60 minutes for Wifi and 5 minutes for Bluetooth – this provides the best combination of accurate reporting and battery life.
Once Bluetooth has been enabled in the Pill Captive Portal, the Pill must be Bonded with a RAPT Bluetooth device such as a RAPT Fermentation Chamber, a RAPT Temperature Controller.
Note: Bluetooth requires a compatible RAPT device such as a Fermentation Chamber or Temperature Controller. Bluetooth will not broadcast unless the RAPT Pill is first registered to the RAPT Portal using WiFi.
When a Pill has been bonded with a compatible RAPT device the RAPT device can then be set to use the Pill as the Temperature Sensor. Doing this allows temperature control using real time telemetry from the bonded Pill. This will also display up to date temperature and gravity data on the RAPT device.

RAPT Pill Hydrometer & Thermometer - Standard Calibration Guide
Standard calibration mode is recommended for most users.
Standard calibration is the quickest and simplest method of calibration.
Plug your Rapt Pill into a charger or computer with a USB-C cable (not included) or place on the wireless charger (if the wireless charging kit is installed)
On your smart phone or tablet, open your WiFi settings and connect to the RAPT Pill XXXX access point using the password "kegland1". You may not need to enter the password if you have previously connected your device to the Pill WiFi
Once the RAPT Pill Access Portal is open on your phone or tablet, navigate to the Calibration tab
Fill a container of sufficient volume to hold the RAPT Pill in suspension with a liquid of known gravity. It is simplest and easiest to use water which has a gravity of 1.000

RAPT Pill Hydrometer & Thermometer - Advanced Calibratin Guide
Advanced calibration mode is suited for higher gravity ferments.
Advanced calibration mode can give greater accuracy across a wider range. Advanced calibration is also quite quick and easy, and can provide a more accurate result than Standard Calibration.
It is the same procedure as standard calibration, but in addition to water at 1.000, you need a solution of a known gravity prepared. We recommend using a gravity in the range that your fermentation will start – 1.040-1.060 for typical beers, for example.

The RAPT Pill Hydrometer and Thermometer allows accurate, real time temperature and gravity logging during fermentation over either WiFi or (with a Bluetooth capable RAPT device) over Bluetooth.

RAPT Pill Hydrometer & Thermometer - Calibration Guide
Calibration before first use is strongly encouraged for best results.
It is recommended to recalibrate after the Pill housing has been opened (to recharge via USB-C, for example), as tiny changes when opening/closing the housing can affect calibration.
IMPORTANT: The RAPT Pill is designed to disconnect from the RAPT Portal once the USB-C cable is unplugged to preserve battery life. Opening the Calibration or Diagnostics screen before disconnecting will keep the Pill Captive Portal active to allow calibration of the Pill. You will be prompted after 10 minutes to “Click Here To Maintain Connection” if the calibration process takes longer than 10 minutes.
Once you have entered a Calibration mode, please assemble your Pill according to the so that it can be removed from the USB and calibrated according to the instructions below

RAPT Pill Hydrometer & Thermometer - getting started!
Ensure you have updated the firmware on your device before attempting to register
In order to use your RAPT Pill Hydrometer, it must be connected to your WiFI network and registered to the RAPT Portal
If your Pill is assembled, charged and ready to go, then you just need to connect it to WiFI and Register your Pill to the RAPT Portal. If it is not ready to go, please refer to Setup & Assembly
Plug your Pill Hydrometer into power using using a USB-C cable (not included).
OR (Wireless Charging ONLY) Place the Pill on the Wireless Charging base. Note. The battery needs to have sufficient charge to broadcast the Captive Portal when wireless charging is used.
On your smart phone or tablet, open your Wi-Fi settings and connect to the RAPT Pill XXX network using the password kegland1
Once your smart phone or device is connected to the Pill network, the Pill Captive Portal will open automatically.
Select your WiFi network from the list of available networks, and enter the WiFi password for your network then select Join. This will connect your Pill Hydrometer to your WiFi network.
Once the Pill is sucessfully connected to your WiFi Network, navigate to the Diagnostics screen in the Pill Captive Portal. Select Check for new firmware. If a newer firmware is available, this will be downloaded and installed.
Once your Pill Hydrometer is connected to your Wi-Fi network and the firmware is up to date navigate to the Registration screen in the Pill Captive Portal.
A Mac Address and Validation Code will be displayed in the Pill Captive Portal. Write both of these down or ensure that your smart phone screen stays on so that you can acess this information. You will need to enter the MAC address and Validation Code on the RAPT Portal to register your device.
Log in to the RAPT Portal (https://app.rapt.io/) on a device that is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Pill Hydrometer you are registering.
If, after troubleshooting, your RAPT Pill is visible in the RAPT Portal but not registered or sending telemetry after at least 60 minutes have elapsed, open the Pill Captive Portal to check Registration status.
Open the Pill Captive Portal on your mobile device. Navigate to Registration. If the message reads REGISTRATION DONE! then your RAPT Pill has been successfully registered.
If it is displaying the MAC address and Validation Code then registration has not been successful.
To re-register your RAPT Pill do not delete the device from the RAPT Portal, instead follow the steps below.
Reboot the Pill - this forces a new Validation Code to be generated. To 'reboot' simply remove the battery for 30 seconds after unplugging the Pill from USB-C or removing it from the wireless charger. Pills can also be rebototed through the Reboot option in Diagnsotics on the Pill Captive Portal.
Connect the Pill via USB-C cable or place it on the charging base (if wireless). Open the Pill Captive Portal on your smart phone or tablet.
Navigate to the Registration tab in the Pill Captive Portal. Click the Clear Registration button if displayed, and wait a couple of seconds for a new Validation Code to be generated. Note: If there is no Clear Registration option then the Pill has not been registered to the RAPT Portal and this step can be skipped.
A guide to assembling and charging your new RAPT Pill Hydrometer and Thermometer
Fully Charge the Li-ion battery after installation before first time use by plugging a USB-C cable into the USB-C charging port on the circuit board until the RED charging LED turns off. This allows the device to calibrate and correctly determine the remaining battery charge. The initial charging period is typically around 24 hours.
Incorrect battery orientation can damage the circuit board.
Always leak test your RAPT Pill by submerging in water prior to sanitising and dropping in your fermenter

The battery will come pre-installed in the RAPT Pill with a non-conductive strip on each terminal to prevent the device from being activated during transit.
Before plugging the device into power, you will need to remove the battery and remove the two non-conductive strips from the terminals. Then reinstall the battery making sure you follow the (+) and (-) inscriptions on the battery and battery housing to ensure you install the battery in the correct orientation.

Only use KegLand approved 18650 rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries (). If non-approved batteries are used the device will require calibration.
Once installed ensure your battery has good contact with the terminals. After installing the battery rotate it slightly within the battery holder to ensure it has good contact.
Important: Once you have installed the Li-ion battery in the correct orientation FULLY charge the battery before first time use by plugging a USB-C Cable into the USB-C Charging port on the circuit board (USB-C cable NOT included).
Leave the USB-C Cable plugged in for at least 24 hours.
When installing the circuit board into the housing it is important to insert the circuit board in the correct orientation to ensure the correct weight distribution for accurate readings. The yellow end of the circuit board should be inserted into the yellow housing as shown below.
Once the circuit board has been inserted into the yellow housing, screw the two housings together hand-tight until both o-rings are hidden to ensure formation of a hermetic seal.
The housing is typically quite tight, especially when the housing is brand new. A dab of food grade lube on the threads can make the Pill easier to to assemble.

RAPT Pill Hydrometer & Thermometer - Custom Calibration Guide
Warning! Custom Calibration is for advanced users only.
Typically Advanced Calibration is accurate enough for all but the most extreme use cases.
This mode can provide the most accurate readings across a wider range than the other calibration modes.
Only proceed if you are comfortable with spreadsheets and complex curves. If you are working with solutions with gravities higher than 1.080, then custom calibration is advised.
For Custom calibration, you will need to take readings at various gravity points roughly 10 gravity points apart, and make a note of the angle of the Pill at each point. We recommend readings from 1.080 down to 1.000, 10 points apart (so, 1.080, 1.070, 1.060 etc). Note that it does not matter if the gravity readings are not exactly 10 points apart, as long as the gravity reading is correct. Use of a hydrometer that is known to be accurate is quite important.
To perform Custom Calibration, it is easiest to start with the strongest solution and dilute to progressively weaken the solution. It is important to use a calibrated hydrometer to ensure accurate gravity readings

Place the Pill in the first solution of known gravity. Wait for the angle to stabilise, then make a note of the angle and the gravity
Repeat this step for solutions of different gravity, making a note of the angle and the gravity at each step. It is easiest to dilute the starting solution in steps of approximately 10 points. Finish with a reading in a solution with a gravity of 1.000 (IE water)
Once you have sufficient readings, the angle and the gravity need to be entered on an Excel spreadsheet (or similar such as Google Sheets) as a graph with gravity on the ‘y’ axis and angle on the ‘x’ axis. The more readings you take, the more accurate this calibration will be. We recommend a minimum of 6 samples, with 10 or more providing a greater degree of accuracy.
When you have created the graph, create a polynomial trend line onto the graph with the degree of the polynomial being at least one less than the number of data points. If the trend line creates an irregular curve (such as not passing through the data point at 1.000 correctly or not following a polynomial shape) reduce the number of data points (ensuring that there are still more data points than the degree of the polynomial) until the curve matches.

In the RAPT Portal select the button from the menu. Select Pill Hydrometer from the drop down. Select Next after ensuring that your Pill Hydrometer is connected to your WiFi network as above.
Enter the MAC address (this will default to All Caps - that is normal) and Validation Code when prompted in the required fields, then select Next.
You will be prompted to enter a name for your Pill Hydrometer. This is to identify the device in the RAPT Portal, and does not have any functional effect. Input the desired name and select Finish
Check the Registration screen in the Pill Captive Portal. This should now display the following message: REGISTRATION DONE!
If this is still showing the MAC address and Validation Code then registration was unsuccesful. Please re-register your Pill using the instuctions below. If that fails, please refer to
Congratulations! Your RAPT Pill Hydrometer is connected to WiFi and registered to your RAPT Portal. You can now access telemetry through the RAPT Portal.
On a separate device that is connected to your WiFi network, open and sign in to the . If you are already signed in to the RAPT Portal, log out and sign in again - this will force any updates which can help resolve issues.
Click on the Edit button of the RAPT Pill that you wish to re-register.
Go to the Troubleshooting tab.
Click the Reset Device Authentication button.
When prompted, enter the new Validation Code that was generated and click Save. Your RAPT Pill should now be registered successfully.
RAPT Pill Hydrometer & Thermometer - Operation Guide
After charging, assembly and device registration your RAPT Pill should be calibrated before use. Refer to the Calibration section for instructions on how to calibrate your device.
Calibrate and then assemble your RAPT Pill. After calibration confirm your RAPT Pill is correctly sending telemetry to the RAPT Portal by leaving it in a jug of water or sugar solution for an hour and checking to see if telemetry has been received by the RAPT Portal. It is best to conduct this test in the position where the Pill will be located during fermentation. For example, f you are fermenting in a fermentation chamber place the Pill in a jug in the fermentation chamber to confirm that telemetry is received and your RAPT Pill has good signal strength.
Once it is confirmed that your RAPT Pill is sending telemetry then sanitise your RAPT Pill with an approved sanitiser such as StellarSan or Phosphoric Acid which has been correctly diluted according to the instructions on the sanitiser’s container.
Drop your RAPT Pill into your fermenter to monitor the specific gravity and temperature of your brew in real time
The RAPT Pill will enter sleep mode when the device is in a horizontal orientation. It will automatically wake up when its orientation is changed indicated by the illumination of a green light on the circuit board. When not in use ensure the RAPT Pill is in a horizontal orientation to ensure it remains asleep.
When in normal operation the Pill will stay in sleep mode but will 'wake' at the set telemtry interval to send telemetry. This will be visually indicated by the green LED illuminating briefly.
Your RAPT Pill will automatically check and install for firmware updates when plugged in to USB power with a USB-C cable (not supplied).
To check the firmware on your Pill, plug the Pill in with a USB-C cable (or place it on the charging base if using the Wireless Charging Kit) then open the Pill Captive Portal by connecting to the Access Point on your phone or tablet or through the Pill IP address.

Use of the with the RAPT Pill is very useful for increasing ease of use and minimising the need to calibrate the Pill after charging, updating firmware etc.
Once the Complete Wireless Charging Kit or the has been correctly installed (please refer to for an installation guide) then the Pill can be wirelessly charged. You can also purchase the
Wireless charging also allows for updating the firmware and accessing the Pill Captive Portal without needing to open the Pill housing to plug the Pill into USB-C.
To charge the Pill simply place it on the wireless charging base, ensuring that the coils are centred over the indicated charging spot on the base. When the Pill is placed on the base the red LED will illuminate to indicate that the Pill is charging. The green LED will start flashing indicating that the Pill is broadcasting a signal so that you can connect to the RAPT Pill XXXX WiFi to open the Captive Portal.
The RAPT Pill will periodically check for OTA (Over The Air) firmware updates when charging commences, so this is typically all that is required to ensure that your firmware stays up to date
When the RAPT PIll Hydrometer has been registered to the RAPT Portal, you can create a custom Pill Hydrometer Profile in the RAPT Portal.
A Pill Hydrometer Profile allows you to receive alerts from the RAPT Pill based on telemtery data.
Pill Hydrometer Profiles are a way to set up Alerts based on the telemetry recevied from the Pill.
This is extremely useful, especially if you are not using the Pill Hydrometer in conjunction with another RAPT device.
RAPT Pill Hydrometers will measure temperature, gravity and gravity velocity (rate of change of gravity over a specified interval).
You can set up alerts based on any of these.
For example, you can set an alert for when the gravity drops to (for example) 1.025 at which point you may wish to raise the fermentation temperature for a diacetyl rest.
You can set an alert for the gravity velocity to drop to 0, at which point fermentation is likely finished and you can begin a cold crash.
You can set an alert when:
The temperature reaches {a specified temperature} - select the operator Less Than or Greater Than and Input a Temperature and Alert Message
The gravity reaches {a specified gravity} - select the operator Less Than or Greater Than and Input a Specific Gravity and Alert Message
The gravity velocity is greater/less than the specified valuereaches {a specified temperature} - select the operator Less Than or Greater Than and Input a Gravity Velocity (in points per day, where one Point = 0.001 sg) and Alert Message
To receive alerts on your mobile device, you must have the or app installed.
In order to receive alerts you need to select Enable Mobile App (Push) Notifications in the My Account settings in the RAPT Portal. You must also enable notifications for the Google Play or App Store App on your mobile device.
Once you are happy that all the Alerts are correct, make sure you hit the Save button to save the profile to your My Profiles library. You can then send it directly to your RAPT device using the Send Profile to Device button or using the Play button in the Dashboard to start a new profile!
The RAPT Pill Hydrometer & Thermometer can be cleaned with standard cleaning agents such as and . Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and keep contact time to 30 minutes or less.
Acid based sanitisers such as acid based sanitiser are ideal for sanitising the RAPT Pill Hydrometer & Thermometer. It is best practice to immerse the RAPT Pill Hydrometer & Thermometer in StellarSan diluted to the correct ratio immediately prior to adding the Pill to the fermenter. It is important to not allow an acid based sanitiser to dry on the Pill as the water content will evaporate leaving concentrated acid which can damage the housing.
If a firmware update is available, this will be updated automatically when the Pill is plugged in to USB with a USB-C cable (not supplied) or placed on the Wireless Charger (purchased separately).
To check and update manually in the event that this is not up to date, select Check for new firmware. Your device will automatically download and update the most current available firmware.
Warning: Do not use alcohol based cleaners or sanitisers over over 20% ABV (such as Ethanol 70% spray, Isopropyl etc). High ABV alcohol based cleaners and sanitisers can cause discolouration and crazing of the clear Nylon 12 Pill housing.

The Rapt Pill Captive Portal can only be accessed when the RAPT Pill is plugged in to USB-C or (Wireless Charging ONLY) charging on the Wireless Charging base. Note. The battery needs to have sufficient charge to broadcast the Captive Portal when wireless charging is usedYou can access the Captive Portal in two ways. You can connect directly to the Pill’s WiFi using a phone, tablet or computer. Simply connect to the Pill’s WiFi network (the network name will be in the form RAPT Pill XXXX where the last 4 digits correspond to the last digits of the Pill’s MAC address).
Alternatively, once the Pill has been connected to your WiFi network, you can access the Captive Portal by entering the Pill’s IP address on a browser. The IP address can be found in the Diagnostics screen of the Captive Portal.
Note: The Pill Captive Portal will close automatically after 10 minutes when the Pill is plugged in to USB-C. If the Pill is disconnected from USB-C within 10 minutes the Pill Captive Portal will close.
This is by design to maximise battery life.
To keep the Captive Portal open for up to 10 minutes while disconnected from USB-C (for example, in order to perform calibration of the Pill) you must first open the Diagnostics or the Calibration screen of the Pill Captive Portal.
There are five options available in the Captive Portal.
CONNECTED TO: This displays the WiFI Network the RAPT Pill is currently connected to
MANUAL CONNECT: This allows you to input a (hidden) SSID (if your network is hidden or private, for example)
OR CHOOSE A NETWORK: You can select any visible WiFi network top connect the RAPT Pill to
The Registraion screen will display the Pill's MAC Address and Validation Code (if the Pill is connected to WIFI but not registered) or REGISTRATION DONE (as above) if the Pill is sucessfully registered to the RAPT Portal.

The Validation Code may have timed out. Reboot the Pill using the Reboot option in the Diagnostics screen. Log out of the RAPT Portal and log back in
Ensure the RAPT Portal is open on a device connected to the same network as the Pill. If the Pill Captive Portal is open on the device, it is not connected to the internet and Registration will not work. Open the RAPT Portal on a seperate device such as a laptop or tablet
Determine whether your RAPT Pill is connected to Wi-Fi
To check this, plug your RAPT Pill in to power and open the RAPT Pill Captive Portal and Navigate to WiFi. It will display the network the Pill is currently connected to. You can also check by navigating to Diagnostics and checking that it shows your network’s IP address next to IP (STA) - in the form 192.168.XX.XXX or similar
Determine whether your RAPT Pill is registered to the RAPT Portal
Open the Pill Captive Portal on your mobile device. Navigate to Registration. If the message reads REGISTRATION DONE! then your RAPT Pill has been sucessfully registered. If it is displaying the MAC address and Validation Code then registration has not been sucessful - see Re-Register my Pill below

Telemetry is only received when the Pill is powered by USB-C
Ensure you have updated to the current firmware
Check that the battery is making good connection with the battery terminals of the Pill’s board. It may be necessary to gently bend these out in order to ensure the battery is making good contact in order to power the Pill when it is not connected to USB-C
No telemetry displayed in the RAPT Portal
Telemetry will take at least 60 minutes to display. If the message Last Contact: never is still di[played in the Pill Status after at least 60 minutes, your Pill to correct this
Check that the Pill is Registered. Plug your RAPT Pill in to power and open the RAPT Pill Captive Portal and Navigate to Registration. If Registration has been successful this will display the message REGISTRATION DONE! If registration was not successful then this will display the MAC Address and Validation Code. your Pill to correct this
Check that your Pill is connected to WiFi in the Pill Captive Portal. Plug your RAPT Pill in to power and open the RAPT Pill Captive Portal and Navigate to Wi-Fi. Check that it shows that the RAPT Pill is connected to your home Wi-Fi network
Check that the Pill firmware is up to date.
Connect to the Pill Captive Portal and navigate to the Diagnostics screen. Select Check for new firmware. If a more up to date firmware is available this will be downloaded and installed
Check your signal strength. Please refer to the . Signal Strength can be checked in the expanded graph in the RAPT Portal
Battery % shows 0 or no value
The battery is not calibrated yet. The battery must be charged completely for the Pill to calibrate the battery charge level. If the battery was fully charged but not calibrated simply let the battery drain (easiest to just use the Pill as intended). Then, recharge the battery fully. This will allow the Pill to register the fully charged battery. This can happen if it is removed from the charger before the Pill has registered the calibration state
Clear housing discoloured, crazed or has hairline cracks
Probable exposure to high percentage alcohol, ethanol or isopropyl. Do not use high ABV sanitisers or cleaners on the clear Pill housing (over 20% ABV) as this can degrade Nylon 12
If updating the firmware persistently fails or throws an error, and all troubleshooting steps have failed, then try using your mobile phone as a Hotspot to resolve this.
Using the phone as a Hotspot will typically solve firmware update issues of this kind
1: It helps eliminate potential network or modem/router issues which can cause problems that can be hard to isolate and resolve
2: It can help eliminate signal strength or poor WiFi connection issues as the phone can be positioned right next to the RAPT device when in Hotspot mode.
To connect to the phone Hotspot and update the firmware there are a few steps to follow
On the phone, turn WiFi OFF. When troubleshooting firmware download or network issues, we do not want to use the same network thus the phone must be disconnected from the WiFi network in order to do this
Enable Personal Hotspot (sometimes just called Hotspot) on your phone. This is typically located under the WiFi or Network menu in the Settings menu of the phone. On IOS this is under Settings/Personal Hotspot. The menu names will vary on Android depending on device
Enable Maximise Compatibility (on IOS) or 2.4gHz Network Only (on Android - again, this will have different names depending on device/OS). This will help minimise issues when connecting
Once Hotspot is enabled on the device, following the steps in to connect to the phone Hotspot
Once connected, navigate to Settings/Check for OTA update on the RAPT Device
Red (battery) light flashes very rapidly when plugged in to USB-C
Please install the battery or check that it is making good contact with the terminals
Lights turn off immediately when disconnected from USB-C
This is normal. To conserve battery power, the Captive Portal will disconnect as soon as the Pill is unplugged from USB-C

Cannot open Pill Captive Portal

Pill Hydrometer Wireless Charger Upgrade | Instruction Sheet
This new wireless charging upgrade enables you to charge the pill hydrometer without the need for open and closing the housing.
Upgrading to wireless charging is a significant upgrade to the pill hydrometer as it means the pill hydrometer doesn’t require repeated opening and closing and this has several advantages including:
It reduces the chance of damaging one of the two o-rings giving you a more reliable seal
It eliminates the chance that the housing is done up to a different torque resulting in less accurate results
It make charging easier and more convenient
You can now access the Pill Captive Portal without needing to open the housing. This is much more convenient and also negates the need to re-calibrate the RAPT Pill Hydrometer every time you assess the Pill Captive Portal
Open the pill housing and remove the 5 gram weight from the bottom of the pill and replace it with the 3.5 gram weight. Repeat this process for the weight at the top of the board.
After the weights have been replaced, attach the two adhesive spacers to the weight at the bottom of the board. stick the wireless charging ring to the base of the pill.
The order is: Weight: Solid piece: Half moon piece: Charging coil. The cutout of the half moon piece should align with the cutout of the board.
Ensure this is installed at the centre of the PCB board so it doesn’t get crushed when the pill housing is closed again.
IMPORTANT NOTE: To access the Pill Captive Portal when the Wireless Charging Kit is installed simply place the Pill on the charging base. If the Pill is already charging, remove the Pill from the charging base and place it back on after 10 seconds.
If the Pill Captive Portal cannot be ccessed (the green LEDs do not flash and the Captive Portal cannot be seen as a WFi Network, the battery may be at too low a charge level.
The 18650 Li-ion battery needs a minimum charge level to access the Pill Captive Portal when using the wireless cahrger. Leave the Pill to charge for at least 12 hours before trying to access the Pill Captive Portal.
Once installed, check that everything is aligned as in the image below.
Plug the USB type C cord into the Type C socket on the PCB board
Reinstall the 18650 Li-ion battery, ensuring correct polarity (if removed). Place the pill PCB board and charging coil into the housing ensuring the wireless charging coil sits in the centre of the housing as shown below.
Tighten the housing until the bottom o-ring is covered to ensure a hermetic seal is formed.
Close the housing back up and then perform Calibration process. We highly recommend using the Advanced (2-point) calibration process once the wireless charging coil has been put into the housing.
The easiest way to do this is right before a brew.
Simply put the pill into 20°C sanitiser solution and calibrate the first point at 1.000 gravity then put the pill into your unfermented wort and calibrate at the known starting gravity (use a second, calibrated hydrometer to complete this calibration process).

To keep the Captive Portal open, you must first open either the Diagnostics or the Calibration screen of the Pill Captive Portal before disconnecting the Pill from USB-C. The Captive Portal will timeout automatically after 10 minutes
If the Pill disconnects despite the Diagnostics or Calibration screen being open, please check the charge level of the battery – it may be insufficient to power the Pill. The battery may be faulty, or not making good connection to the terminals. A fully charged battery has around 4.2V – this can be tested with a multimeter
If the battery has a good charge level but is not powering the Pill it may be necessary to gently bend the terminals out in order to ensure there is good contact with the battery
Battery level reads 0% or not displaying in the RAPT Portal
This indicates that the Pill has not detected a fully charged battery. Note that the battery must be charged in the Pill for this to be detected the first time
Ensure the RAPT Pill is successfully registered to your RAPT login (the calibration figure will not work unless the pill is linked with your RAPT account)
Discharge the battery by using the RAPT Pill for at least 1-2 weeks or by removing the battery and discharging in a device that uses power faster, then plug the pill into the USB Type C charging cable for 24 hours. This will allow the Pill to register a fully charged battery which enables accurate battery life data to be displayed
The lights on the Pill stop flashing when it is unplugged
This is normal. The Pill will be ‘asleep’ by default and will wake briefly at the set interval to send telemetry. The green light will flash when this happens. It may also wake when movement is detected
Gravity reading is not correct
Check calibration
Physical factors can affect accuracy - gently shake the fermenter to dislodge stuck krausen etc
Ensure the Pill can float freely and unobstructed
Temperature is incorrect
Calibrate temperature
The temperature reading will typically be high when the Pill is active - for example, plugged in to USB-C, charging or during calibration. This is because the battery generates enough heat to affect the on board thermometer. When in normal use, this is not an issue as the Pill will only be active for a few seconds in order to send telemetry.
