# Yeasts

The RAPT Portal has a large database of yeasts which is maintained to be as up to date as possible.

This works in a similar manner to Fermentables where you can also add any items that are not in the database to your inventory manually as well.

To add a yeast to your inventory select the <img src="/files/78z6Qrll9yUFBgHAzIXy" alt="" data-size="line"> **Add** button in the top left.

This will bring up the Yeasts window where you either search for the hop to add, or simply enter it manually if it is not in the database.

Once you have found the yeast you wish to add in the database, select it by clicking the name. This will populate the fields with the current values for the yeast. These can be added to or edited manually if desired. FIelds that can be entered include Laboratory, Name, Type (Ale or Lager yeast), Form (Dry, Liquid, Slant or Culture). Values includes data such as Flocculation , Attenuation and Minimum and Maximum Temperature

Once you are happy with the information for the yeast, select <img src="/files/CSO9M1Jwvo95sFz7acDe" alt="" data-size="line"> **Save** to save this to your Yeast inventory.

If the yeast you wish to add is not in the database it can be added manually.

Simply enter the values in the fields as necessary. There are two information tabs - DETAILS & VALUES

Details is the name, laboratory, type etc of the yeast. Values is the specification of the yeast - Attenuation is the most important of these as the recipe builde will use this information. If the attenuation listed for the yeast is a range (which is typical) enter the median of the range for this field.

Every item entered in your Inventory also has an Inventory Amount field. This should be kept up to date with the current inventory level. If any item in your Inventory is used in a recipe in the RAPT Portal Recipe Library, you can elect to have the item automatically deducted from your Inventory when the recipe is brewed.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.rapt.io/inventory/yeasts.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
