# Fermentables

The RAPT Portal has a large database of fermentables which is maintained to be as up to date as possible.

You can also add any items that are not in the database to your inventory manually as well.

To add a fermentable to your inventory select the <img src="/files/78z6Qrll9yUFBgHAzIXy" alt="" data-size="line"> **Add** button in the top left.

This will bring up the Fermentables window where you either search for the fermentable to add, or simply enter it manually if it is not in the database.

Once you have found the fermentable you wish to add in the database, select it by clicking the name. This will populate the fields with the current values for the fermentable. These can be added to or edited manually if desired. FIelds that can be entered include Manufacturer, Type (Grain, Sugar, Liquid Extract etc) and also specifications such as EBC, Diastatic Power etc.

Once you are happy with the information for the fermentable, select <img src="/files/CSO9M1Jwvo95sFz7acDe" alt="" data-size="line"> **Save** to save this to your Fermentables inventory.

If the fermentable you wish to add is not in the database it can be added manually.

Simply enter the values in the fields as necessary. There are three information tabs - DETAILS, TYPICAL VALUES and OTHER

Details is the name, manufacturer etc of the fermentable. Typical Values is the specification of the fermentable - these values will be used when building a recipe with this ingredient. Other has information such as Recommended Boil or Mash (how the fermentable is typically used)

Every item entered in your Inventory also has an Inventory Amount field. This should be kept up to date with the current inventory level. If any item in your Inventory is used in a recipe in the RAPT Portal Recipe Library, you can elect to have the item automatically deducted from your Inventory when the recipe is brewed.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.rapt.io/inventory/fermentables.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
