This is where your personal library of recipes is viewed and managed.
All created and imported recipe is displayed here. You can also create or import recipes directly from this screen. You can select the recipe you wish to brew from this screen.
Available recipes are sorted alphabetically.

On the left is the
Add new Recipe button and the
Import Recipe button.
To Import an existing recipe, select the
Import Recipe button.
The recipe must be in BeerXML format to be imported. The BeerXML file can be uploaded or simply dragged and dropped onto the Imprt Recipes pop up.

To create a new recipe, select the
Add new Recipe button.
This will open the Edit screen. This screen s where all recipe data can be viewed, edited and scaled. It is a powerful recipe editing tool with full functionality, including built in water calcultions (including accurate pH calculations), IBU colculations and the ability to manage and scale recipes for different sized batches or alternate brewing equipment.
Once the recipe has been imported or created simply select the recipe from the My Recipes screen in order to view the details and/or edit the recipe.
You can search for a recipe in your library using the Search option in the top right.

Once you have Added or Imported a recipe, it can be edited (if imported) or created in the Recipe Editor screen. To Edit or design any recipe select the recipe in the My Recipes screen.
The Recipe Editor will open automatically once you select
Add new Recipe.
RAPT Portal | Recipes
The RAPT platform provides a comprehensive recipe designer, allowing you to create and import recipes. Every recipe you create can be shared with other users, and you can search through any publicly shared recipe and add it to your library. You can rate public recipes using a 5 star rating system and find highly rated recipes that you might be interested in brewing yourself.
To create a new Recipe, click the Add New Recipe button in the toolbar. See My Recipes for a detailed explanation. Existing recipes from other platforms can also be easily imported as well!
To find an existing recipe, use Search Recipes. You can thewn browse or enter a search term (such as Pale Ale, for example)
You can track your Brew Day and previous Brew Days under Batches
Water Profiles allows you to enter your Water Profile. Typically you can get this information from the wesbite of your local water provider. Using the correct Water Profile in conjunction with the RAPT Water Profile database makes getting the perfect water profile for every brew a one click calculation!
To manage your Brewing Sysem, you can import an existing Brewery Profile, or create your own! This is managed in
The RAPT Recipe Builder is tightly integrated across the RAPT ecosystem. Brewing and Fermentation Profiles can be created with one click in the Recipe Editor and then seamlessly sent to your RAPT devices when you are ready to brew!
RAPT Portal | Search Recipes
This page operates as a recipe library for all RAPT Recipes that are publicly viewable. You can easily include your own favourite recipes by changing the default from Private to Public
Once you have found a recipe you wish to brew or to add to your library for later use, simply select the recipe to open the individual recipe page.
From here you can see all the details of the specific recipe.
To add the recipe to your own library, select the Copy Recipe button in the top left corner.
This will add an exact copy of the selected recipe to your library. Once the recipe is added you can edit the recipe in any manner. Edits made to the library copy will not be reflected in the Recipe Library database, so any recipe that is added to your Recipe Library can be edited with no issues.
RAPT Portal | Water Profiles
Water Profiles is where you manage, create and store your Water Profiles.
Water Profiles should reflect the water source that you use for brewing. You can also create target profiles - that is, water profiles that you build using brewing salts when brewing.
Most brewers will only need to input one Water Source. You may need two or more if you use different water sources for any reason - for example, you may use tap water and well water, or RO water for different brews.
Most water companies will list the chemical breakdown of the water they supply on their website. This allows you to be precise when building a source water profile. It is recommended to enter up to date and accurate water information in order to get good accuracy when adjusting the brewing water and profile.
Once you have the information required, enter the Water Profile by selecting the Add button. This allows the Water Profile fields to be edited


If this Profile is Source Water (that is, you will be using it to brew with) then check the Source Water check box. If this is checked, then you will be able to select this as a water source but not as a target profile. If this is not checked then you can select this profile as a target profile, but not as a source profile
If this is your Default Water Profile (the water that you will be brewing with) select the Default check box as well. This Water Profile will then be pre-populated in the Water Chemistry tab when designing new recipes.
Next, enter the known values for Calcium Ca2+ | Magnesium Mg2+ | Sodium Na+ | Chloride Cl | Sulfate SO₄²⁻ | Bicarbonate HCO3- for your Water Profile
Once this information has been entered, selectSave to save your Profile
Once saved, the new Water Profile can be used in the Water Chemistry section of the Recipes tab.


RAPT Portal | Recipe Editor
The Recipe Editor is the heart of the RAPT Recipes tool.
In the Recipe Editor, you can edit imported recipes or create your own recipes from scratch.
With a full featured database and powerful calculators built in, you can design delicious beers in a few minutes, or tweak existing recipes to suit your own tastes or brewing system!
The Recipe Editor is easy to use - it is laid out in a logical, step by step manner. As you work through the built in calculators will update to reflect brew details such as predicted ABV, EBC, IBU etc. You can also take adbvantage of the powerful and accurate Water Calculator to really fine tune your brew.
As the Recipe Editor is tightly integrated into the RAPT ecosystem, you can also easily add existing Brewing Profiles and Fermentation Profiles, or input the profiles directly and convert to a RAPT Profile with one click!
First, name your beer - this can be anything you like.
Enter the desired Batch Size - this is the volume of wort rather than the finished, packaged batch size. To scale the recipe to a different batch size, click the Scale button and enter the new batch size. If you wish to change batch size but to not scale the ingredients, deselect Auto Scale Ingredients before saving.
Select Boil Duration - This will default to the boil time of the . This can be changed manually using this option. NOTE: If a new equipment profile is selected in the recipe Editor, the Boil Duration will not change even if the new Profile has a different Boil Duration. This is to preserve the recipe volumes and specs. Thus, use this option to change Boil Duration.
Toggle whether the recipe is Public or Private. If set to Private only you can see the recipe. If set to Public then your recipe will be searchable by any RAPT Recipe user
Select the Brewing Equipment Profile here. All available Brewing Equipment Profiles can be selected. If you do not have any Equipment Profiles available they can be created or imported from . Equipment Profiles can also be customised once created. The equipment profile will set specs such as batch size, brewhouse efficiency, boil off, brew day losses etc
If the profile is changed, RAPT will prompt you to scale the recipe. This makes it easy to (for example) change a brew from a double to a single batch - simply switch to the appropriate Brewing Equipment Profile and RAPT will scale the recipe for you!
The default option is Manual Steps. You can then enter the desired Brewing Profile in the Recipe Editor in the section. If you are using an existing BrewZilla Profile this can be selected from the dropdown instead. NOTE: If you enter the Mash Steps this can be converted into a BrewZIlla Profile and saved to your Profile Library with one click!

NOTE: If you enter the Fermentation steps this can be converted into a Fermentation Profile and saved to your Profile Library with one click!
The expected water volumes, batch and packaging volumes are listed here. These are linked to the Brewing Profile and Fermentables. Changing the Brewing Profile, grain bill and other recipes choices (such as yeast) will be reflected here.

Mash Water - Volume of water before grain is added Mash Volume (incl. grain) - Total volume in brewery (water + grain) Sparge Water - amount of sparge water needed to hit pre-boil volume Total Water - total water volume required (mash + sparge)
Select a style appropriate to the beer you are making. The database is populated with all current BJCP styles, as well as style guidelines etc. Click the Search icon and start typing the beer style name to bring up a list of styles based on the name, or simply scroll through the list. Clicking on a beer style name will open up the description and guildelines for that style.
To select a style and apply it to the recipe, click the checkmark next to the style name
Once a beer style is applied to the recipe, the style guidelines section will be populated with the range appropriate to that style. This allows you to tweak ABV, OG, FG, EBC and IBUs if desired to suit the style.
This is where the grain bill for the recipe is built. Click the Add Button and start typing the malt name in the search bar to find the desired malt
Once the desired malt is displayed, select it and enter the quantity, then select to save the malt in the grain bill. As malts are entered and saved, the brew specifications will be updated to refelect FG, EBC etc based on the grain bill.
To limit the grains to your own inventory, select the My Inventory Only option. This will lock out the database and only search malts entered in your inventory.
As the grain bill is calculated, the expected SG, FG, ABV and EBC will be updated in the section to reflect this. This allows you to change the grain bill to reflect the style or your personal tastes in real time.
This works in the same way as entering Fermentables. Click the Add Button and start typing the hop name in the search bar to find the desired hop. Select the hop and enter the Amount, Use and Addition Time. Then select to save the hop to the recipe.
Amount - Quantity of Hops
Use - Select Boil, Dry Hop, Aroma (Hopstand), Mash or First Wort
Addition Time - this is the time the hops are added (if Boil is slected) or the contact time (other options)
As hops are added, the IBU of the recipe will change to reflect the additions.
The section allows you to add Miscellaneous Ingredents to your brew. These can include Brewing Salts, finings, flavour additions etc. There is an included database of common ingredients.
Adding Yeast works in the same manner as adding other ingredients. Click the Add Button and start typing the yeast name in the search bar to find the desired yeast. Once a yeast is selected the FG and ABV of the reipe willchnage to reflect the expected attenuation based on both grain bill and yeast profile.
The Mash Profile can be added in a number of different ways. If you have selected a BrewZilla Profile already, this will be prepopulated with the appropriate steps. You can also create a suitable BrewZIlla Profile in your Profile Library and then select it in the recipe.
Otherwise, a Mash Profile can be manually entered, step by step
Enter a Step Name, Temperature and Step Length, then select to save the step. Continue adding steps until the Mash Profile is complete.
If adding Mash Steps manually in the Recipe Builder, once complete you can automatically create a matching BrewZilla Profile using the Convert to BrewZilla Profile button. The Profile that is created will have the same name as the recipe and will be saved to your My Profiles library with that name, appended with - Brew
NOTE: If Mash Steps are converted to a BrewZIlla Profile in this manner then Sparge, Pre Boil and Boil steps will be added automatically

However, for advanaced brewers or brewers that wish to adjust their brewing water profile there is a powerful and simple to use water calculator in the Editor screen. This is hidden by default - simply select the dropdown arrow to open the Water Chemistry Calculator.
To get the best possible brews, familiarising yourself with and using brewing salts to adjust the water chemisty is a way to really get the best possible beers!

Typically your water provider will have the required information on their website.
Once you have input the correct data, remember to check the Default and the Source Water boxes.
Adjusting Water Chemistry is normally the final step when creating or amending a recipe. In part, this is because as well as the chemical makeup of the water, the grain used will also have a significant effect on the water chemistry. This is automatically calculated by the RAPT Water Chemistry Calculator.
The easiest way to use Water Chemistry is by using the built in profiles. First, you need to input and select your
If you do not have an accurate Source Profile then the Water Chemistry Calculator may not give accurate results.
Once the recipe is finalised, click the arrow to display the Water Chemistry Calcultor. We want to work through this step by step for the best and easiest result. While it may look quite complex, there is a lot of automation built in to make this quite easy to use.
You will see that the selected malts for your recipe have been automatically added to the Water Chemistry Calculator.
Each grain will also have a malt type assigned. Check that this is correct as the type of grain (base, raosted, crystal etc) can have an effect on the estimated pH level. If eny of these are not correct select the correct type of malt from the drop down menu.
This is pre-populated based on the recipe as entered. These values can be manually amended - for example, you may decide to do a no sparge brew day.
The currectly selected Default Source Water Profile will be selected here. The displayed values will reflect this profile. If you wish to change the source profile click the Details button to bring up a menu of currently available Source Water Profiles.
To calculate the water adjustments for your recipe, click the Details button in the Target Profile section. This will bring up a list of suggested water profiles for various styles of beer. Select the target profile that best suits the current recipe.
For example, if you are brewing a Pale Alew you would select Pale Ale as your Target Profile. Not all beer styles are represented so in some cases you will need to select a Target profile that best matches your recipe.
For example, for a Begian Dubbel you might select the Balanced Target Profile or the Amber Strong Balanced profile - experimenting with different water profiles can be a great way to make subtle improvmednts or changes to your beers!
Once you have selected the Source Water Profile and the Target Water Profile it is time to calculate the salt additons for your recipe. This is performed in the Additions section.
Before we do this, you need to select which Brewing Salt additions you have to hand. The typically used Brewing Salts are listed with a toggle for Mash and a toggle for Sparge. Before calculating trhe salt additions, go down the list and select the Brewing Salts you wish to use ands whether you will modify the Mash water, the Sparge water or both. You do not need to select all the Salt Additions.
A typically Brewing Salts kit for homebrewers might include some or all of:
Gypsum (Calcium Sulfate) CaSO4 x 2H2O
Calcium Chloride (dihydrate) CaCl2 x 2H2O
Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate) MgS04 x 7H2O
Select the salts you wish to use for brewing from the list, and toggle these on for mash and/or sparge as desired. Generally Mash would always be enabled as this is the most important water profile to adjust.
In the above example, we will only be calculating Gypsum, Calcium Chloride and Epsom Salt additions for the mash.
Once these have been selected your choices will be remembered and saved for subsequent recipes so that you do not need to toggle these every time.
Now you have your Source Water Profile, your Target Water Profile and your Additions selected, simply hit the Calculate Additions button!
The Water Chemistry Calculator will calculate the correct salt additions to best emulate the selected Target Water Profile based on the Source Water Profile and display the correct salt additions.
In this example the Source Water Profile is Reverse Osmosis (RO) water, the Target Profile is Hazy IPA. Once the calculations have been made we need to add 3.11g Gypsum, 7.77g Calcium Chloride and 3.11g Magnesium to the mash water to acheive the desired water profile.
To use this information, whe preparing the strike water for brewing carefully weigh out and add the salt additions to the strike water. It is best to do this well before adding the grains as this allows time for the chemicals to fully dissolve.
NOTE: When a Salts field is toggled n, the salt additions will be automatically calculated. For Salt Additions that are not toggled on, you can enter a valuein that field.
This value will be accounted for when the Salt Additions are calculated.
For example, you might want to add a pre-determined amount of Sodium Chloride (if brewing a Gose, for example), but still use the calculator for the other brewing salts.
Simply enter the amount of Sodium Chloride in the text box, then hit Calculate. The correct Salts will be calculated allowing for the entered quantity of Sodium Chloride
Once the Water Chemistry calculations have been performed, the Acid Additions (Mash) section of the Water Chemistry Calculator will be unlocked. Mashing in the correct pH range can help acheive the desired flavour profile and increase brewhouse efficiency through better conversion.
The ideal mash pH range for most beers is between 5.2 - 5.5pH
The calculator will account for the Water Source, the salt additions (as calculated) and also the grain bill. Ensure that the type of malt is correct in the section of the calculator, as this will have quite an effect on the acid calculations.
The current pH adjustment will be displayed here - this is the effect on the mash pH from the Water Source Profile and the grain bill.
Below this we have the currently calculated Mash pH with a breakdown of the Mash, Sparge and Total water pH, with a breakdown of the calculations. This is the unadjusted pH of the mash
To calculate the required acid addition, choose your acid type (Lactic or Phosphoric) and set the concentration (default 88%) to match the strength of the acid.
Enter the amount of acid to be added in mLs and hit the Calculate button.
Both the change in pH and the Calculated Mash pH will change to reflect the acid addition. This can be readjusted as required - simply enter a different value and re-calculate.
In most cases it will not be necessary to increase the mash pH as for most beers the mash pH will be higher than desired.
However, if the grain bill has a large amount of dark or roasted malts, then it may be necessary to use Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) NaHCO3 to raise the pH.
To calculate how much Baking Soda is required to raise the pH level of a dark mash, then simply perform the water calculations as normal. Once this is done trhen manually enter the required amount of Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) NaHCO3 in the section of the Water Chemistry Calculator. Do not toggle this as we will be entering this manually.
Once the necessary amount of Baking Soda has been added select the Calculate Additions button again. This will recalculate both the brewing salts addtions and the mash pH, adjusted by the Baking Soda addition. If necessary, change the amount of Baking Soda and recalculate until the desired pH is reached.
